Blue Ridge Healing Arts Academy
T'ai Chi - Free Introductory Class
SECTION CONTACT HOURS COST
Public0 $10.00
The eight week beginner class, called "Bird's Tail", consists of weekly one hour instruction and daily practice at home. Individual practice is essential in order to cultivate a full experience of what this art has to offer.
Class attendance is important and one should not enroll for the eight weeks if they know of scheduling conflicts. The student is responsible for arranging make up class with the instructor in cases of unforeseen circumstances.
Wear loose clothing, flat shoes, and be prepared for an hour of relaxing, light hearted play. T'ai Chi is a gentle art and we enter into it's practice in a gradual and open manner. Each person comes with different physical and mental attributes and limitations. We start from that point, and without forcing the body or mind, gradually coax the body and mind into the cultivation of the life energy, called "chi".
Cost - $80 ($10 per class) First class is free! Please feel free to attend the free introductory class or call the instructor, Gerald Moose, with any questions. (704) 463-1535

Instructor Gerald Moose
I was born in Concord, grew up on a farm near Mt. Pleasant, and graduated Mt. Pleasant High School in 1971. After a year at UNCC, I moved to the Washington DC area and began a career in sound and acoustics. In early 1985, I began my studies in T’ai Chi with Robert Smith. I moved with my wife and four children back to the Concord area in 1988, and have been teaching T’ai Chi locally since the mid 90s. I own a contracting business called Moose Tech, where I design and install commercial sound systems.
Description of T’ai Chi Style I teach: I teach the Yang Short Form, as developed by Cheng Man-ch’ing. Cheng (d. 1975) was a senior student of the T’ai Chi Master, Yang Chen-fu (d. 1935), who taught Yang Long Form. My teacher, Robert Smith, met Cheng in Taiwan in the 1950s, and studied with him for years. Mr Smith and his wife, Alice, taught T’ai Chi in Bethesda Md for almost 30 years before retiring and moving to the Asheville area. I consider myself fortunate to have benefited from the persevering and patient instruction of my teachers, and endeavor to pass the teachings on as faithful to this gentle art as possible.
